Greetings from the Southeast, Central and South American, and Caribbean (SECSA-CHRIE) Federation Board and our host institution, the University of South Carolina, School of Hospitality and Tourism Management! Please join us for our 9th Annual SECSA-CHRIE Conference from Friday, March 8th to Saturday, March 9th, 2024.
We hope you will consider attending this event and presenting an abstract for the conference proceedings. We are excited to announce a two-pronged academic focus for this conference and program: Research and Pedagogy. Attendees will be asked to submit works in hospitality and tourism, emphasizing hospitality and tourism research or pedagogical practices. Accordingly, this highlights a broad range of contemporary topics relevant to research, education, and industry practices in hospitality, tourism, and related fields of study.
Research Track:
There are two options for submission under the research track.
Option1: Completed Empirical Research Paper – a maximum of 1000-word structured abstract for a formal paper presentation (15 minutes + 5 minutes for Q&A)
Option 2: Work-in-Progress Paper – a maximum of 500-word abstract for a shorter presentation (10 minutes + 5 minutes for Q&A).

Research Track Requirements

To be considered for the completed empirical research paper, researchers must submit a structured abstract (1000 words max., in English, including tables/figures, but excluding references) by the deadline (December 3rd, 2023, 11:59 pm EST).

To be considered for the work-in-progress paper, researchers must submit a structured abstract (500 words max., in English, including tables/figures, but excluding references) by the deadline (December 3rd, 2023, 11:59 pm EST).

Authors may be the lead author on a maximum of 2 papers. Conference proceedings will be added to the CHRIE website following the conference.

Use single-spaced 12-point font, Times New Roman, one-inch margins, in APA format.

The presentation schedule will be finalized after author registration is completed.

All papers are to be submitted online via EasyChair.

Please submit the file in Microsoft Word form and name the file with your last name and first initial (i.e., BrownT.doc).

Once submitted, papers will undergo a double-blind review process.
Pedagogy Track Requirements

The Pedagogy Track will feature multiple workshops to provide practical lessons and teaching
modules that faculty can use in their respective classrooms or programs. These workshop
presenters will share best practices, innovative teaching lessons, and/or examples from their
classrooms.

All workshops should include handouts or “takeaways” attendees may apply to their teaching.
The goal is for attendees to leave each session with new ideas that they can apply immediately in
their classroom and at their university or school.

To present in this track, please submit a 1-page proposal, using single-spaced 12-point font,
Times New Roman, one-inch margins, in APA format by the deadline (December 3rd, 2023, 11:59 pm EST) to Dr. Kathy Kim at kkim01@mailbox.sc.edu.

Award Opportunities:
Several awards will be presented for both research and pedagogy tracks at the completion of the
conference, including:

Reviewers:
We would like to ask for volunteers to be reviewers for the proceedings. If you would like to volunteer to review individual abstracts (2 maximum), please email Dr. Wei Wei, SECSA Director of Research, at wei.wei@ucf.edu.
